Rebecca of sunnybrook farm

Rebecca of sunnybrook farm
Adapted by Kate Douglas Wiggin and Charlotte Thompson from Wiggin's 1903 story, this four-act sentimental comedy produced by Marc Klaw and Abraham Erlanger opened on 3 October 1910 for 216 performances at the Republic Theatre. Essentially a character study of an optimistic orphan sent to live with a grouchy aunt, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm became a perennial for young audiences. A silent motion picture version (1917) starred Mary Pickford, followed by a 1932 sound film with Marian Nixon, a musical adaptation (1938) with Shirley Temple, and a 1978 television* movie with Julia Lewis.
